Madrasi dana

Is Madrasi Dana Washable and Weatherproof?

The grain is stone — washing does not scare it. What actually decides whether a dana wall survives cleaning and weather is the binder underneath.

1 min read

The granules are marble; water and washing do not harm stone. What decides whether a dana wall is washable is the binder holding the grain on. A properly bound wall takes rain, hosing and gentle brushing for years; a lean-mix wall sheds granules the first time anyone cleans it seriously.

What "washable" really tests

When you brush or hose a dana wall, you are testing adhesion, not stone. Grain that comes away was never properly gripped — laid with diluted binder, a starved mix, or over dust (all covered in what differs between offers). This is why washability is decided on application day, months before the first wash.

Weather, honestly

  • Rain: sheds off the textured face; the finish is used on exteriors precisely because rain does not trouble it.
  • Sun: stone shades are inherently stable in UV — colour-fastness is the material's strong suit.
  • Dust: settles in grain, rinses off — the routine is in the cleaning guide.
  • Water inside the wall: the exception that beats everything. Seepage from behind lifts any finish; weatherproof on the face never means waterproof in the body (the full distinction).

Buying washability

Since the binder decides it, buy the binder deliberately: ask any bidder what binder system is in the mix and in what proportion. The binder chemical is a small share of the job cost and the whole of its washability — the one component never to let a low bid trim.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hose my dana wall?

A sound wall, yes — modest pressure, sensible distance. If a test patch sheds grain, stop: the wall has an adhesion problem, not a cleaning problem.

Is dana suitable for bathrooms?

Splash zones are unkind to any decorative wall finish; dana belongs on dry interior walls and exteriors, not inside a shower.

Salt-white patches appeared after rain. Cleaning problem?

No — that is efflorescence, water moving through the wall from behind. A waterproofing diagnosis comes before any cleaning.
