No — and any supplier who says otherwise is selling. Marble texture paint is a weather-resistant decorative finish; waterproofing is a separate barrier system underneath it. The two work together superbly, but they are different layers doing different jobs, and confusing them is how walls fail expensively.
What texture does resist
A properly bound granule finish shrugs off rain hitting its face. Stone does not rot, the binder is not water-soluble once cured, and the textured surface sheds water rather than holding it. For an exposed wall in sound condition, that surface resilience is genuinely valuable — it is why texture is an exterior material at all.
What it does not do
- It does not seal cracks. Water entering a crack behind the finish travels the wall exactly as before.
- It does not stop rising damp. Ground moisture climbing inside masonry ignores what is on the face.
- It does not fix seepage. A wall with water moving through it will push that water through any decorative layer — texture included — as staining, salt bloom and shed grain.
In short: texture resists water on its face; waterproofing stops water in the wall. Face versus body.
The right order for an exposed wall
- Diagnose. Any damp history? Read the signs and decide honestly.
- Treat. Seal the entry points, treat the wall with the appropriate waterproofing chemical, let it cure.
- Decorate. Prime and lay the texture on a dry, protected wall.
Done in this order, each layer makes the other look good for years. Done in reverse, the texture becomes an expensive bandage that water lifts from behind.

A sound, dry wall with no history can take texture directly over primer. Waterproofing first is insurance on exposed elevations — cheap now, disruptive later — and simply necessary on any wall with a history.
Is there a "waterproof texture paint"?
There are texture products marketed with water-resistance claims. Read them as face-resistance, which good texture has anyway — not as a substitute for treating a wet wall.
